We’ve all been there–drank a little too much, stumbling home with frazzled hair, still a bit too intoxicated to even bother washing off our make-up. We either slip off our clothes and jump into the most jammies-like option available, or full on just jump into bed with our dress still on straight from the club.
After only three hours of sleep, we wake up thinking, “Shit! What happened last night? Oh no, I didn’t wash up… Ugh. My skin… My make-up… I feel all the foundation seeping into my pores, f***!”
This might not be the exact train of thought you have but if you’re like me, it might come awfully close. For those that are skin-conscious, yet still can’t be bothered after a hard night of partying, here’s some little skin pick-me-ups that will bring back all the nourishment and hydration you lost to tequila shots, midori sours, and Jameson cocktails. Even for girls with sensitive skin like me – who can’t just throw on anything on her skin – this routine has been effective to replump & renourish the most dehydrated skin.
Skin Saviors for the Morning After
Make sure you’re getting all that dirt and sweat off your face. Taking off your make up with a wipe and going back to sleep is not enough. Get a cotton pad, pour on some micellar water, and wipe away all the foundation, mascara, and dirt still lying on your skin. This is just an oil-based cleanser, so don’t expect it to take off anything super heavy or deep. This step will take off the first layer of make-up, build-up, pollution, etc. and bring back some of the moisture to your skin.
After micellar water, make sure you’re cleansing deeply but gently. Don’t over-exfoliate which we are all tempted to do. I use Dr. Jart’s Demarclear Micofoam Cleanser, which is incredibly rich, creamy, nourishing, and gentle. This formula is both thick and lathery as it turns into a foam with super creamy dense bubbles that feels so nice and soothing on your face. The formula has active hydrogen water that effectively removes impurities between cells. With ingredients such as calming rosemary, soothing camomile, and pore-fighting and tightening sage, you’re getting a hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested product that is safe for sensitive skin–one of the best traits of all Dr. Jart products.
If you’re feeling extra paranoid about all the sweat you werked up while dancing and all the secondhand smoke clouds you walked through, I would highly recommend a gauze/pad exfoliant to get rid of remaining gunk after your double cleanse. I only do this when my skin is feeling particularly dirty from factors such as the pollution, make-up build-up, or even just breakout appearances. I use Neogen’s Gauze Bio Peeling Green Tea, which is a gentle chemical exfoliant that removes dead skin and impurities while also moisturizing the skin. Note: this is not a make-up remover. It should only be used after double cleansing to get dead things off your face! You will notice smoother, clearer skin right away. Make sure to wash off after use.
Once you’re done double cleansing, make sure to leave the dripping water on your face. Take a bit of your toner in your hands and splash/tap it into your skin. Keeping the water on your face after cleansing and tapping it in with your toner allows it to soak in well. This is a very important step for toners to work effectively. This will nourish your dehydrated skin much more than wiping away the water then applying.
Double Face Mask
To rehydrate your face after all the drinks, double face-mask! Even if you’re hungover AF, make sure you’re taking time to nourish your skin and get it back to being plumpy, dewy, and glowy. Simple face masks only require you to open the package and put it directly on your face. That being said, I simply open up and apply one of my favorite masks, allow 10-20 minutes of soakage, tap the remaining essence into my face, and apply another one.
Apply with friends, and drink again. 😉 Jk, but go pamper yourselves to recuperate.
What type of face masks you ask? – I personally love Mediheal face masks. I highly recommend all of them. I think they are the most effective, innovative, hydrating and sensitive to all skin types–plus you see results right away. They are dermatologist tested and never irritate my skin. Some face masks are poorly made and sting when you use them, but I’ve never had any Mediheal masks sting my face no matter how much I’ve partied, exfoliated, or damaged my skin. They are all super soothing, nourishing, and effective.
I recently used Mediheal’s H.P.A. Hydrapeel and Vita Lightbeam masks together and they got my skin looking brighter, healthier, and plumper than ever. I really love how they get so deep into your skin and heal it from the inside out.
These are some of my go-to’s for Mediheal masks: I.P.I Lightmax, N.M.F Aquaring, Collagen Impact, P.D.F. AC Dressing, and the Two-Step Collagen Smart Filler Mask. If you ask me, these are the masks I trust and use often! You can mix and match as you please. I think Ampoule masks work for me best, as they are incredibly hydrating and nourishing for the skin.
After double masking for about 30-50 minutes total, take them off, tap on the remaining essence from the mask. Then, apply your usual moisturizers or serums.
After a hard day of partying and double masking, I like to keep my moisturizers light & watery. I use the Dr. Jart Hydro Water Fuse Ultimate Hydro Gel as my first layer after the 2nd mask.
After letting it soak in, I put on COSRX’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence to get that deeper hydration for my skin underneath the surface layer. If I am still a bit dried out, I apply Dr. Jart’s Ceramidin Liquid as a serum. If my skin’s already feeling pretty hydrated, I go for Dr. Jart’s Water Fuse Dew Drop as the last step! It is both an oil and water-based serum, so it simultaneously gives moisture while the oil locks it in your skin. I love how it feels– super silky smooth and soft! Leaves your skin looking healthy and glowy.
If you want to apply a final layer of moisturizer or cream, I go for the Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream. This line has done wonders for my skin and really penetrates the barrier layer of the skin and nourishes from the inside out. If you don’t want a heavy cream feeling after all the other products you have used, I would just use one gel-type cream and end it there.
Don’t forget your eye-cream for those dark circles of death after being hung over and sleep-deprived all day!
My skin actually looks fabulous after doing this routine the morning after a crazy night out (when I’m in the brutal grips of a hang over). Who knew that could even be possible? Try it out yourself and let us know how it works for you! 😉
