Who likes waking up to acne on their face? I am positive no one enjoys saying hello to new acne in the morning, so let’s talk about ways to battle these whiteheads!
Having battled acne for more than 7 years, I can confidently say a more expensive product does not necessarily mean a more effective product. The key is simply being smart about researching product reviews thoroughly, testing products out, and figuring out what works best for your skin! With that being said, what are whiteheads? Well, whiteheads are acne formed due to clogged pores. Clogged pores can stem from overproduction of oil, accumulation of dirt, and other debris, as well as dead skin cells.
The good news is that whiteheads are a mild form of acne and can usually be taken care of easily. Keep in mind that “easily” doesn’t mean you can be nonchalant with your skin. It means that with consistent and intentional care, whiteheads can easily disappear without becoming inflamed! I have had a soccer stadium full of whiteheads throughout my life and have found three ways to fight whiteheads effectively without breaking the bank! Let’s say goodbye to whiteheads and hello to clearer skin in 2018!
Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment
What is it?
It is a spot treatment with 10% sulfur, which helps to fight pimples. It can be used on small zits that are about to form before they even become whiteheads. If they become whiteheads, you can still consistently treat the blemishes with the sulfur spot treatment, which will help the inflammation and minimize future blemishes.
- Dry (used intermittently, and not too often)
In Your Routine:
Using Kate Somerville’s EradiKate Acne Treatment is fairly easy. After you cleanse your face thoroughly, you can apply the treatment on the blemish directly. The product will dry out and can become slightly flaky. Therefore, reapplying it 1-3 times a day is very helpful to keep the product effective! Sometimes, your skin may become more dry, especially if used during the winter season. As a result, I would recommend using it every other day. Use it more or less depending on how dry your skin becomes.
Soak Insider Tip:
I am a longtime user of this product (3 years!) and still love it! While cleansing my face, I feel for any new bumps coming up. After thoroughly cleansing, I apply the rest of my skin regimen and then add the sulfur spot treatment. Although you can use the sulfur spot treatment directly after cleaning your face, I tend to feel really dry if I don’t apply my products right away. To combat this, I use all my other face products first and use the sulfur spot treatment as the last step! It still works just as effectively!
Try using it overnight. I’ve waken up several times, and the blemishes have completely disappeared! Beware though – the sulfur residue can get everywhere. If you plan on falling asleep with it on, I highly recommend putting a towel over your pillowcase! Overall, the trick is to try to spot treat the blemishes at their smallest size. Make sure to feel for new bumps while cleansing your face to stay aware of what is going on with your skin!
Acne Pimple Master Patch COSRX
What is it?
The COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patches are a sheet of acne-fighting patches to stick on your face before going to bed. Once you wake up, the pimples will be gone or less inflamed! This patch helps to get rid of bacteria and break down your clogged pores without any harsh results or drying of the skin. The patches come in different sizes to treat zits of all sizes!
In Your Routine:
Applying these patches is simple! After cleansing your face and thoroughly drying your skin, stick the patches on blemishes. Once completed, gently apply the rest of your skin regimen before going to bed! Peel it off when you wake up and say hello to clearer skin!
Soak Insider Tip:
From my experience, the Master Patches are the most effective during the night; however, they can be used during the day too. They may not be as effective due to the constant movement of your face, which might make the patch looser. Nonetheless, I have benefitted from using the Master Patches during the day as well!
ICE, ICE, ICE your face
This is simple, free, and easy! Honestly, this trick is one of my favorites! I can easily access my freezer any day, and the results are phenomenal! Whenever I have a lot of tiny bumps or zits forming on my face and don’t want to slather my face in chemicals, I resort to icing my face. I wrap a piece of ice in saran wrap and ice my face for 10 to 15 minutes. Doing this consistently always diminishes or makes my acne disappear completely!
As someone who has suffered from mild to severe acne, it gives me excitement to share these tips with you! I know how frustrating acne can be, so when a whitehead starts to pop up, try these tips and see if they help!
